Maintenance

For many years, the France Telecom Marine fleet has maintained cables in the Atlantic Ocean under the ACMA agreement and in the Mediterranean, the Red and the Black Seas under the MECMA agreement.
Chamarel Marine Service, a wholly owned subsidiary of France Telecom Marine, operates in the Southern Hemisphere for maintenance on a 20,000-kilometers segment of the system SAT-3/Safe stretching from the latitude of Dakar in the Atlantic Ocean to the latitude of Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean.
Under SEAIOCMA (South East Asia Indian Ocean Cable Maintenance Agreement), France Telecom Marine is also responsible for cable maintenance in the Indian Ocean through a 50/50 joint venture with Singapore-based operator SingTel.
Since 1983, the France Telecom Marine cableships have performed more than 410 maintenance operations.

Cable-laying

Since 1988, when fibre optics took over from coaxial cable, France Telecom Marine has laid 124,000 km of submarine links.

France Telecom Marine has contributed to lay the SEA-ME-WE 3, Atlantis 2, Americas 2, TAT 14, Southern Cross, Hibernia, Safe, EAC, AJC and C2C systems, not to mention dozens of festoons to nearby landing points. More recently, we contributed to the GEMINI-BERMUDA network.

The laying of these new-generation high-speed links demands experience plus state-of-the-art equipment and skills.
